The Philippine Red Cross Area Laboratory achieved a milestone at 6 AM, April 10, 2021. The facility’s recorded COVID-19 tests went beyond the one million mark for the first time that day.

This news was first made known by PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon in a Twitter post. His tweet not only aimed at announcing the feat but also towards congratulating the laboratory found in Port Area, Manila.

Gordon stated on his account that, “This is indeed a significant milestone in the fight against COVID-19.” He also noted how the lab is the biggest molecular lab in the entire Philippines.

The PRC Lab can boast of 11,000 tests within a single day. Since its establishment back on June 23, 2020, the facility managed an average of 6200 tests daily.

Said PRC Lab is under the management of Florame Magalong-Sanchez, with help from supervisors Dante De Olazo, Kim Diatol, and Lai Bronzal. The PRC Chairman and senator was not the only source of this outstanding news.

PRC also announced this milestone through a separate social media post on Facebook. The organization stated that “most of the samples tested in the Port Area are those of incoming OFWs.”

In addition to processing samples for COVID-19, the laboratory also places focus on various other infectious diseases. These include human immunodeficiency viruses or HIV, tuberculosis, dangue, Zika, hepatitis, and more.
