The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has officially introduced the upgraded Passenger Terminal Building at the Port of Lucena, marking a major milestone in maritime travel infrastructure. The modernized facility is designed to offer a safer, more spacious, and more efficient experience for travelers passing through the province of Quezon.
Expanded Capacity and Improved Comfort
The centerpiece of the renovation is the significantly expanded Pre-departure and Waiting Area. To address the increasing volume of travelers, the PPA has increased the terminal’s seating capacity from 607 to nearly 1,000 seats, ensuring that more passengers can wait for their voyages in a climate-controlled and comfortable environment.
The terminal also features a new Concourse Area, which serves as the primary artery connecting the ticketing office, boarding gates, and other essential facilities. This layout was strategically designed to promote a seamless and safe flow of passenger traffic throughout the building.
World-Class Passenger Amenities
The modernized Port of Lucena now boasts specialized facilities aimed at inclusivity and passenger well-being:
- Nursing Room: A private, clean, and comfortable space dedicated to breastfeeding mothers, including passengers and terminal staff.
- Medical Clinic: A fully equipped clinic with its own restroom and storage room to provide immediate first aid and medical assistance.
- Ecumenical Room: A quiet area for prayer and reflection available to travelers of all faiths, featuring separate foot bath facilities for men and women.
- VIP Lounge and Family Area: A dedicated waiting space for VIP guests and families traveling with infants or small children.
- Modern Restrooms: Upgraded, spacious, and well-maintained lavatories designed for a more hygienic experience.
Sustainable and Green Operations
Aligning with modern environmental standards, the terminal has been integrated with a Solar Panel System. This renewable energy source is intended to reduce the facility’s carbon footprint, lower electricity costs, and provide a reliable backup power source during emergencies.
The PPA emphasized that these upgrades are part of a national commitment to modernize the country’s gateways. Through these enhancements, the Port of Lucena aims to deliver a travel experience that is not only efficient but also reflects the government’s vision of a more progressive and comfortable transportation system for every Filipino.
