The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has issued a safety advisory for all sea travelers following the latest weather updates regarding Tropical Depression #CaloyPH. While the weather disturbance is projected to weaken, the agency emphasizes the importance of vigilance as the country approaches the rainy season.

According to the DOST-PAGASA Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 8 released at 5:00 PM on May 11, 2026, the center of Tropical Depression #CaloyPH was last tracked 470 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. The storm maintains maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.

Precautionary measures for sea travel

Although meteorologists expect the system to weaken into a remnant low within the coming hours, the PPA advises motorbancas and small seacraft to exercise extreme caution. Moderate sea conditions are expected in several coastal areas, which may affect the safety of small-scale maritime operations.

PPA General Manager Jay Santiago has assured the public that ports nationwide remain prepared to ensure safety, order, and efficient operations. Travelers are encouraged to monitor port advisories closely before heading to their respective terminals.

Traveler safety guidelines for the rainy season

To help passengers navigate the changing weather conditions, the PPA has released a set of essential safety reminders:

  • Prepare for rain or shine: Always carry an umbrella or raincoat to stay protected from sudden downpours or extreme heat.
  • Health and immunity: Maintain a healthy diet and take vitamins to strengthen your immune system against seasonal illnesses.
  • Stay updated: Regularly check the official Facebook page of the Philippine Ports Authority for the most recent information regarding port status and schedules.
  • Exercise judgment: Avoid heading to the port if weather conditions are visibly deteriorating or if local authorities have advised against travel.
