Gothong Seabus to launch new route between Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu

Sea travel for commuters in Mandaue City will be an option soon as the Gothong Seabus service is set to be launched. This service, offered by Carlos A. Gothong Lines Inc., is expected to become operational by the end of February.
The new route will establish a link between Mandaue City and Opon, Lapu-Lapu City. This route will ensure a dependable alternative to land travel, which will consequently help alleviate traffic.
The project has been backed by a meeting held on February 11, where it was attended by city officials. Planning for the service began last year.
To make the service more accessible, a free shuttle service will transport passengers to the terminal at the following points:
- Parkmall, Mandaue City
- Mandaue City Hall
- Pacific Mall
They will be taken to GT Ferry Wharf on Zuellig Avenue in Subangdaku. From there, they will travel regularly across the waters to Lapu-Lapu City via Seabus.
Negotiations for the setting of the rate at a 20-peso fee per trip are ongoing. This rate is lower than the initial proposed rate of 35 pesos to make it more affordable.
There are also early plans to expand the route network in the future. There is a plan to connect Mandaue to Camotes.
The launching of the initiative is a joint task between Gothong Shipping and local governments. Likewise, updates on the implementation will be circulated as the schedule nears.
