Philippine Ports Authority launches Online Reservation Assistance System to streamline passenger travel

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has officially introduced the Online Reservation Assistance System (ORAS), a digital initiative designed to enhance passenger convenience and organize travel flow across the country’s maritime gateways. The system aims to provide a more systematic and effective travel experience, particularly during peak seasons, by allowing passengers to plan their trips well in advance.

Understanding the ORAS framework

ORAS is a free digital service provided by the PPA that enables passengers to choose their preferred routes and schedules through a simplified online process. By implementing this digital reservation system, the agency expects a significant reduction in port congestion and shorter queues at ticketing booths.

The system is currently set for implementation in four major locations: Lucena, Batangas, Balanacan, and Calapan Port. While the system is digital, the PPA clarified that registration is mandatory before travel, though assistance remains available at port ticketing booths for those without mobile access.

The three-step process: Scan, Choose, Reserve

To use the system, passengers are encouraged to follow three simple steps: Scan, Choose, and Reserve. The PPA has outlined the following registration flow:

  • Registration: Passengers can register at home or upon arrival at the port by scanning the official QR code or visiting the ORAS website.
  • Verification: A verification code (OTP) will be sent to the user’s registered mobile number or email address.
  • Confirmation: Once verified, a digital QR code will be generated. This code must be presented at the port’s verification area to secure a physical ticket.

Key travel requirements and limitations

Travelers are reminded of several critical guidelines to ensure a smooth boarding process:

  • Arrival Time: Passengers must arrive at the port at least three (3) hours before their scheduled departure. The ORAS pass remains valid until three hours prior to the trip.
  • Identification: A valid government-issued ID or official identification is required during the registration process.
  • Special Groups: Senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and children may register online or request assistance at designated ticketing booths.
  • Group Bookings: The system allows for multiple ticket reservations to accommodate families and groups.

System availability and constraints

The PPA noted that the system may have limited availability during specific peak holiday periods, specifically citing a limitation period from March 30, 2026, to April 8, 2026. During these times, schedules may change due to OPLAN constraints (such as Good Friday), and trips may become fully booked quickly.
