The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has temporarily suspended sea travel for small vessels in Surigao del Norte starting July 8, 2026, as Super Typhoon Inday brings rough sea conditions to the region.
In compliance with the government directive, local operator SJ&G Shipping Lines has announced the immediate suspension of its trips scheduled for July 9, 2026, until further notice due to turbulent waters.
PCG suspends voyages for vessels 35GT and below
According to Sea Travel Advisory No. 1 issued by Headquarters Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte, voyages for all types of watercraft with 35GT and below plying from mainland Surigao del Norte bound for the affected areas are temporarily suspended. The suspension was signed by Station Commander LTJG Roy Christopher R. Orillaneda.
The decision follows the PAGASA weather bulletin, which warns of wave heights reaching up to 3.5 meters along the eastern seaboards of Dinagat Islands, Bucas Grande – Siargao Islands, and Surigao del Norte.
Cancelled shipping schedules
Due to the suspension, SJ&G Shipping Lines has confirmed that the following trips for MV Pilar Tuna Passion on July 9, 2026, have been cancelled:
- Surigao City to Dapa, Siargao – 5:30 AM
- Dapa, Siargao to Surigao City – 9:00 AM
Precautionary measures for mariners
The PCG advised that vessels covered by the temporary suspension may only sail for the sole purpose of seeking shelter. This is subject to the condition that the vessel’s master submits a written notice and that the ship carries no passengers or cargo.
Additionally, small watercraft operators are strongly advised not to venture out to sea, while larger vessels are urged to exercise heightened vigilance and strictly assess weather conditions before navigating.
